Frequently Asked Questions

Facials

Answer
The DermaSound Elite is safe, state-of-the-art ultrasonic treatment system that utilizes distilled water with low frequency sound waves for superior skin care results. It is a non-invasive device that improves all skin conditions. Medical studies report significant improvement in the skin after just one DermaSound treatment. The DermaSound Elite visibly reduces lines and wrinkles, evens skin tone and smoothes texture, minimizes pore appearance, and improves skin hydration / nutrition. It’s perfect for sensitive and fragile skin. It helps repair and rebalance mitochondria, the energy source of the cells, by assisting in the transport of nutrients, eliminating waste from the cell AND increasing energy of the cells for a younger acting skin. When applying products to heal and hydrate, the DermaSound Elite creates pathways in the skin that allow ingredients to penetrate 4,000 times deeper than a manual application. This technology helps to nourish skin at the cellular level, resulting in tighter, firmer, and younger-acting skin.

Answer
Unlike microdermabrasion, the DermaSound Elite does not injure the skin. It removes the micro-damaged layers of dead skin cells using a gentle micro-jet frequency that spins distilled water across the skin’ s surface without causing any trauma or inflammation.

Answer
The Oxygen Facial Infusion is a unique soothing and reparative skin treatment that is in a class of its own. Using custom selected hydrosols to deliver the purified oxygen, this treatment kills bacteria, speeds up healing (such as acne lesions), promotes collagen and elastin fiber production, detoxes the cells, neutralizes free radicals, and reenergizes the cells.
Answer
The fact is your skin is turning over every 4-6 weeks just like your hair continues to grow. I feel that we need to do some type of treatment every month to have your skin be the most optimal it can be. These treatments are always chosen by skin issue, desired speed of results, and of course budget.

You have so many amazing ingredients infused into your skin that needs time to process. Please wait at least four hours before washing your face, but as long as possible is better.
Answer
Working out before your facial is ideal. You have some amazing ingredients infused into your skin and you don’t want to sweat it out. Plus heating the skin up can reactivate certain ingredients that we may not want to keep working.

Sugaring/Waxing

Answer
It is best to workout before your wax because you will want to keep the area cool and dry for at least 24 hours after your service. However, PLEASE shower or freshen up before your wax. It will be much appreciated!
Answer
Waxing is better because it removes hair from the root. When you shave you just cut the hair, so two hours later, you can see the hair follicle below the skin. Waxing, on the other hand, not only can last up to a month, but it’s also much more permanent – over time it thins the hair so less grows back. As a bonus it exfoliates the skin, leaving you feeling silky smooth. I really feel like waxing is the low maintance girls dream for hair removal. You have better things to worry about than your annoying body hair. Let that be my problem now!
Answer
A Brazilian wax removes more hair than a bikini wax. A bikini wax focuses on the front and sides (what would be visible in a swimsuit). The Brazilian removes the front, sides, back and everything in between, often only leaving a strip of hair in the front – or none at all. Most of the time you can leave your underwear on during a standard bikini wax, but for a Brazilian, you’ll have to be sans panties.
Answer
Some reasons for having a Brazilian wax include cleanliness, convenience, and of course, sexiness.
Answer
If you’ve shaved recently, wait a minimum of five days. However, for the longest smooth skin effect three weeks is preferred. I know, I know, crazy! How can you let it grow that long? I recommend starting your wax regimen in early spring to avoid looking like your making a hairy statement. For the best results (aka hairless longer) when switching to a waxing routine, it is highly recommended that you commit to waxing every 4 weeks. It has to do with your hair growth cycles, that I will not bore you with here. Check out this video if your want to know more. But in an emergency, if you have a hot date or are about to go on vacation, go ahead and come in for your wax. You can come back in three weeks with no problem.
Answer
If you’re worried about pain, take one or two Advil an hour before your appointment. If you are concerned about redness, taking Tums or another Antacid can be helpful. Always consult your physician before taking any medications. I also recommend an exfoliating scrub the day before and advise not to apply body lotion the day of the wax. Also, for underarm waxing, do not apply deodorant. Whatever you do, DO NOT SHAVE before your appointment! You would be surprised how often this happens…
Answer
I practice a NO DOUBLE DIPPING policy! Double dipping means that the technician used the same stick each time she dipped into the vat of hot wax. This practice contaminates the wax and allows bacteria to spread from one client to another. Plus, you wouldn’t want the wax used on your upper lip to have been mixed with a stick used on another woman’s bikini area. I also recommend using Finipil, which is anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and anti-fungal, for at least three days post wax.
Answer
Everyone’s pain tolerance is so different! The fact of the matter is that we are pulling your hair out by the root, so… yeah it’s going to hurt just a little. Although the pain does subside as soon as the wax is over, the area can remain sensitive.
Answer
No, your skin is clean and little vulnerable so putting your bacteria covered underwear on is HIGHLY discouraged. Some nice loose pants to skirt is best post waxing. While I am at it, if you are having ingrown hair problems try to not wear underwear at night and as little as possible.
Answer
Definitely don’t pick or dig at them! I have an amazing at home and in spa ingrown hair treatment that is great whether you wax or shave. Finipil will help with prevention, washing more frequently with liquid soap, exfoliating the area regularly, and not wearing underwear as often will all help to diminish this stubborn issue!
Answer
It is very common after the first wax to have little red and/or white bumps. I always recommend using Finipil, which is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-microbial, for at least 3 days after waxing to keep the area clean, cool, and calm. The little white bumps usually never happen again, but the little red ones will. It is just a little bit of blood under the skin where the hair detached from its blood supply. Again, the Finipil will help soothe the area.
Answer
Only for the reason that it will probably hurt more. We retain water the week before a cycle and obviously when pregnant. This definitely can make the skin a little more sensitive. But hey, sometimes a girl just needs to get waxed, so don’t hesitate to keep your appointment!
Answer
You will want to keep the area cool and dry for at least 24 hours after your service, so it is best to hold off. If you just can’t imagine waiting (sometime it just happens when it happens) the applying Finipil before and after is recommended. If you know at your appointment you will be getting down later that night, let me know and I have some other cream that will help keep you protected!

Spray Tanning

Answer
  • Do not shave or have any hair removal done 8 hours prior to visit.
  • Shower and exfoliate. Use a body scrub, not a bar soap. You want to remove excess dead skin cells so the product adheres evenly.
  • Spend a little extra time exfoliating areas with thick skin, such as knees, elbows and ankles.
  • If skin is dry, use light lotion at least 2 hours prior.
  • Remove makeup.
  • Avoid wearing perfume or deodorant as these can lead to blotching and flaking.

Answer

  • Wear dark, loose clothing and avoid underwire bras.
  • Wear open shoes, like flip-flops.
  • Avoid perspiration, don’t exercise until after your first shower.
  • Avoid getting your skin wet, even from rain, washing dishes or giving kids a bath.
  • Wait 8-12 hours before you shower, and then apply shower gel only with your hands, not a loofah, towel, or sponge.
  • After your first shower, moisturize 2-3 times a day! Hydrated skin will maintain a glowing tan best.
  • Avoid oil based products, especially mineral oil for as long as you want to keep your tan; mineral oil will remove your spray tan.
  • Stay away from Dove soap and products, they will damage your tan.
  • Use hair conditioner on skin when shaving.
  • Use an extending lotion to extend the life of your tan.
  • Use organic or natural made soaps on skin.

Answer
I have seen it all, so feel free to bare it all! If you are feeling a little more conservative you can wear a bikini or just your bottoms. As with all of my services: Your body, your choice!

Answer
Spray tan is not what it was in the 90’s. There are new, modern formulas that are being improved all the time! It is rare to actually turn orange anymore. If it does happen it is probably just not the right solution for your skin type. That is why I carry multiple brands and solutions to give you the hottest tan possible!
Answer
ABSOLUTELY NOT! NOT AT ALL! You will still need to use a broad spectrum sunscreen and/or drink the UV Protectant Harmonized Water. Use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day.

Energy Work

Answer
Energy work is the subtle manipulation of the electrical current and energy that is produced in your body. The energy flows can become blocked in your body due to lifestyle, stress, diet, emotional disturbances, and many other reasons. These blocks can eventually lead to unusual mood swings and behaviors. Energy blocks can even manifest as illnesses or physical pain. By helping to release energy blocks on a regular basis, you will have more vitality and a stronger sense of personal balance.
Answer
No. Your energetic body exists whether you believe in it or not. No matter what state you are in or what your beliefs are, after an hour with me you are sure to be, at the very least, deeply relaxed.
Answer
It is different for every session and what energy modality we are working with. Straight up Reiki can often be a lot more hands off. I prefer to combine Reiki with Jin Shin and Chakra balancing techniques that are more of a light acupressure hold on different meridian lines in the body.
Answer
Yes, you are fully clothed during your session.
