First, Relax

A picture of a woman using hyaluronic acid skincarePeople are going nuts over hyaluronic acid. Thanks, Eva Longoria (insert eye roll).  In a recent commercial, Ms. Longoria (I’m killing with kindness) is essentially talking about how great it is and the more of it you use, the better. Well, I’m a professional esthetician (she isn’t), and that’s not the whole story.

Yes, It's in Our Products

Yes, we have hyaluronic acid in our products however we do not believe in over using it. Just like anything healthy. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance found in our skin. It holds 1,000 times its weight in water, keeping skin plump and supple.

Here's the Whole Story about Hyaluronic Acid

But, it’s not all good, folks, and it’s up to me –and people like me—to tell you the whole story, not just an exciting headline. Hyaluronic acid’s immense capacity to hold water can have a bad side to it. It needs moisture to work, so when applied to skin in dry conditions where humidity is low, it will pull moisture from wherever it can. In other words, if there’s no humidity to be obtained from the air (Colorado, anyone?), it draws moisture from the deeper layers of skin and brings it to the surface of the epidermis, whence it evaporates, leaving skin drier than it was.

We found that the skin can develop some not so good hyaluronic acid reactions if this product is overused, yet people continue to love it because of its great immediate results. It DOES plump your skin and you can significantly see results RIGHT AWAY! But, in the long run, it can cause dryness in the skin. Which is better? Only you can choose but I know my choice.
